Headaches

Physical Therapy Can Treat Headaches

Approximately 50% of people experience headaches at some time in their lives, and, for many, headaches can be debilitating.  Physical therapists most commonly treat migraine, tension-type headaches and cervicogenic (neck-caused) headaches, although many people suffer with a mix of these headache types.  Physical therapists have specialized training to assess headaches and apply comprehensive treatment strategies.

Physical therapists treat headache using a combination of education, manual interventions and exercise.  Manual treatments can include joint and muscle mobilization, joint manipulation, and dry needling.  Exercises may improve posture or address mobility and strength impairments.  Education includes lifestyle and self-care techniques.
